Assistant Camp Director (ACD) @ CoolineKids
Lead incredible staff, support program operations and help bring camp to life.
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Executive Director, the Assistant Camp Director takes ownership of leading site staff, providing behavior support for campers, and facilitating the CrewCamp program, all while getting a chance to see camp in all dimensions from programming to operations to behavior support to leadership to safety. This role is a little bit of everything.
An ACD's Year Broken Down
Starting in January, the Assistant Camp Director will have weekly virtual meetings with the Camp Executive Director. These meetings will be held with total flexibility and will be based on the Assistant Camp Director's availability and schedule.
Every month before June, there will be a virtual leadership workshop to learn how to become a stronger camp leader. That will also be scheduled around the Assistant Camp Director's availability and schedule.
During June/July, work does increase and then they will being leading camp!
July & August 2022 - 2022 Leadership team reflections, identify skills needed for an Assistant Camp Director, form applications, promotes the position to 2022 staff, open application & hire the Assistant Camp Director
September-November 2022 - Assistant Camp Director meets monthly with Executive Director and supports the planning of roles and job applications
November 25, 2022 - Returning Staff Application opens
January 1, 2022 - Priority Hiring (New Staff) Application opens
January 1, 2023 - Assistant Camp Director position starts & Leadership Retreat
January 2023 - Review Applicants & Move Group Onto Next Stage
February 15, 20223- General Hiring (New Staff) Application opens
February 2023 - Curriculum Finalization, Review Priority Staff In-person & Review More Applicants
March 15, 2023 - Registration Opens For Prioirty Families
March 2023 - Camp Operations Design, Interview General Staff & Finalize Summer Staff

This Fall (Aug-Dec), expect...
1) To be able to focus on school, college apps and senior year
2) Assist me in fundraising (along with the rest of staff, I am hoping to do a peer-to-peer fundraiser)
3) Review some of the returning staff applications and/or start thinking about the types of folx you want on your team. You will be responsible for building your team in the spring, and I will be here to support you.
4) Respond to an occasional texts/emails or my request for a check in
This Spring (Jan-May), expect...
1) To continue school and wrap up your senior year
2) Work on budget collaboratively
3) Start re-designing activities, CrewCamp & operational systems at camp
4) Grow our curriculum to add an additional week of programming
5) Support me, the ED of Cooline, in making large scale decisions about our program
6) Work virtually, on a team to plan camp
7) Be trained on how to be a camp leader, facilitator & supervisor
8) Learn how to become an anti-racist & culturally responsive person & leader
9) Review applications, interview, hire and onboard your team
10) Take all the other steps to make camp real!
This Summer (Jun-Jul), expect...
1) Do some final pre-work before camp
2) Co-facilitate CrewCamp and lead your own training sessions
3) Lead camp staff through 2 week full of challenges and incredibly inspiring moments
4) Be a supervisor at camp. Handle complaints, challenges and issues you see during camp that could pose a threat to the emotional, spiritual or physical safety of campers or staff. Look at situations objectively and evaluate them as a person who is responsible for the brand of Cooline.
5) Co-facilitate and support our 3 week hybrid leadership program for high school students
6) Connect with me, the ED of Cooline often.
7) Co-lead all summer programming & support with debrief after summer is complete
